Honestly? I don’t think it’s utopian. At all. I also am assuming that you know me, because you seem to know what I’m going to say here.
It’s fine in The Original Series and I guess it’s okay in Enterprise, but oddly enough, the world in The Next Generation (generally considered to be the best in the franchise) seems more…..not utopian really, but not utopian. There are tons restrictions int he rulebooks on EVERYTHING, the people on Enterprise in that era are naive morons. Seriously, the only ones with any sense are Riker and the Klingon. As good as the series is, I really have to question people who sit around a conference table talking about what to do while they are being fired upon by an enemy vessel because they are so terrified of any kind of bloodshed, even if they barely have a choice.
But yeah, I could handle Enterprise or The Original Series, but if I was on Enterprise during the next generation, I would make it about a week before snapping and flipping over a table and being like “LIGHTEN UP” and going to spend the rest of my life on the holodeck. The people just seem too by the books, stuffy and up their own assholes.
